On 30 June this year, a picnic was held to mark the 60th anniversary of the university. Representatives of the Ministry of National Defence, the General Staff, the branches of the armed forces, and uniformed services attended, along with large numbers of Academy staff, including retired personnel, industry partners cooperating with the university, and alumni.
The event was accompanied by an exhibition of equipment presented by friendly defence industry companies, as well as booths from all WAT faculties. KenBIT also had a booth, strongly associated with the university. The stand featured the BMS HEKTOR battlefield management system and portable communications sets produced by KenBIT.
