Subsystem for Remote Control and Configuration of Communication System
The Shipborne Subsystem for Remote Control and Configuration of the Communication System by KenBIT Sp. z o. o. has been designed for the needs of the Polish Navy vessels equipped with the NEPTUN Shipborne Integrated Communication System.
OPZKK SŁ OCTOPUS is a basic element of shipborne internal and radio communication means control. It enables the configuration of voice and data communication devices as well as visualisation of device statuses and switching states. Thanks to its scalability, the system can be installed on various types of vessels with any hardware configuration.
OCTOPUS visualises the communication system architecture in the form of a scalable diagram on which devices and physical connections between them are depicted. Device descriptions along with port descriptions and device statuses are also available. This provides the ability to quickly orient oneself in the system's operation as well as quickly locate any potential faults.
With each device on the diagram, an appropriate configuration form is associated. The forms provide the ability to configure several or all parameters of the devices.
The OCTOPUS system also visualises the logical architecture of the communication system, showing internal switched connection paths taking into account physical connections. The user has the ability to observe all voice connections and data transmissions between end and intermediate devices.
OPZKK is implemented in a client-server architecture. The server role is performed by the Communication System Control Concentrator device. It features serial asynchronous data transmission interfaces and optical Ethernet with the possibility of connecting modems, radio stations, switchboards, VTS interfaces. The server client role is performed by applications installed on terminals.

Visualisation of device statuses (e.g. transmission, reception). |
Visualisation of logical connections between end devices (for data transmission and voice transmission). |
Management of communication devices from a single location. |
Configuration of the system, according to saved data, with a single button. |
Storage and visualisation of additional data related to radio communication. |
Interface to external systems. |
The main, central hardware element dedicated to the operation of the system is the Communication System Control Concentrator. It performs the role of the system server.
The system's functions are provided by specialist applications run on PC terminals of ship's functional personnel:
Menager,
Viewer.
The device is the central element of the remote control and communication configuration system. It features 16 asynchronous ports (RS-232, RS-422) and an optical Ethernet port (TCP/IP) with the possibility of connecting modems, switchboards, radio transmission means and other required devices. LED diodes on the front panel illustrate the statuses of managed devices. The equipment is adapted for mounting in standard RACK-type cabinets. The Concentrator cooperates with all devices of the NEPTUN Integrated Communication System that have been equipped with an appropriate interface enabling remote reconfiguration and management.
Application designed for the visualisation of physical and logical connections between devices, device statuses and configuration. It provides access to all of the vessel's communication devices from a single location and the ability to configure the entire system according to saved data with a single button. Device management is carried out through configuration forms. The system enables access for multiple users simultaneously via the central Communication System Control Concentrator server.
An application with functionality similar to Manager, with the exception of the ability to configure devices.
